Family Hero Books (“we,” “us”) helps families turn personal stories into illustrated picture books. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Questions? Email support@familyherobooks.com.
What we collect
- Account info: name, email, password (or Google OAuth ID).
- Story content: memories, photos, family details, and dedications you provide while creating a book.
- Payment info: processed by Stripe — we never see or store your card number.
- Shipping info: name, address, phone for delivery of printed books.
- Usage data: standard server logs (IP, browser, page visits) for security and product improvement.
How we use it
- To create your book — generating illustrations, story text, and the printed product.
- To process payments and ship printed books.
- To send transactional emails (account, order, shipping notifications).
- To improve the product and detect abuse.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your stories or photos to train AI models for general use.
Service providers (sub-processors)
To operate the service, we share data with the following third parties under contract. Each is bound by their own privacy and security obligations:
- Supabase — database and authentication.
- Vercel — application hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Lulu — printing and shipping.
- Anthropic & OpenAI — AI text generation.
- Recraft & fal.ai — AI illustration generation. Photos you upload may be sent to these services to produce illustrated portraits.
- Resend — transactional email delivery.
Google Sign-In
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive only your basic profile identity — your name, email address, and Google account ID (the email, profile, and openid scopes). We do not request or access any other Google data, such as your Gmail, Drive, Contacts, or Calendar. This information is used solely to create and secure your Family Hero Books account.
Family Hero Books' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell Google user data, do not use it for advertising, and do not transfer it except as needed to provide or improve the sign-in feature, for security, or to comply with law.
Photos and personal information about others
Many of our customers upload photos of family members — including deceased relatives or people who cannot directly consent. When you upload a photo or share information about a third party, you confirm that you have the legal right to do so. See our Terms of Service for the full warranty.
Data retention
We retain your books, stories, and photos for as long as your account is active so you can re-order reprints or access your content. You can delete your account and all associated content at any time by emailing support@familyherobooks.com.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your data. To exercise these rights, email us at support@familyherobooks.com.
Children
Family Hero Books is intended for use by adults. Children under 13 should not create accounts. The books we produce are often gifts for children; the adult creating the account is responsible for the account and the content provided.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-product notice.
